Label History
In 1979, we decided to blend our peaceful music of flute and harp with the sounds of nature and start our own record label. Little did we know that we were pioneering a whole new musical genre. Since then, Soundings of the Planet has produced over 50 albums and worked with outstanding people and musicians from around the world, including Hungarian born pianist and composer Tom Barabas, trance guitarist Scott Huckabay, Chinese guqin master Li Xiangting, Native American elder Cha-das-ska-dum, and even the Dalai Lama of Tibet. Our music has helped to build awareness and support a variety of social and environmental concerns such as the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Tibetan and Native American issues, and recently in donating music to rescue workers and grief counselors in New York City.
Most significantly, however, has been the effect of the music on health and wellness. What started out as interest from a few alternative health care practitioners has grown to an important adjunct to healing in mainstream as well as alternative medicine. Music can even have a calming effect on emotions of grief and trauma. The use of the Earth Resonance Frequency is unparalleled in the recording industry. The natural, relaxation-producing vibration of the planet is carried on the waves of Soundings' music.
